Gifted & Talented

Joseph Renzulli, American educational psychologist, developed the three-ring model of giftedness, which promoted a broadened conception of giftedness. He also developed the "Schoolwide Enrichment Model" for developing children's talents in schools. Gifted & Talented children and youth are those of high potential or ability, whose learning characteristics and educational needs require qualitatively differentiated educational experiences and/or services. Possession of these talents and gifts, or the potential for their development, will be evidenced through an interaction of above intellectual ability, task commitment and/or motivation, and creative ability. The identification process begins at 3rd grade with a nomination by teachers, parents, peers, self, and/or other significant adult(s). A placement committee will review each student's profile to determine placement. Students are notified when selected or not selected for the GT program. Reviews of students are conducted each year.


 The Dollarway School District's Gifted & Talented (GT) Program's goal is to provide a qualitatively differentiated educational experience for our students. GT service is provided through enrichment, pull-out programs, or Pre AP and AP courses. Students also have the opportunity to participate on teams such as chess and Destination Imagination, where they are engaged in academic challenges that foster curiosity, courage and creativity.
